The dot SE country-code TLD was launched in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was very restrictive, so a very limited number of domain names were registered. Individuals could book no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. merely Swedish persons, businesses and organizations were able to register a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized significantly and, consequently, the number of .SE domains has been rising each year.

Currently, anybody can purchase a dot SE name, which gives you the opportunity to get in touch with the Swedish net community even if you do not have a local presence.
